Article Response #5 (Due Fri 5/23)
A little over my head, but still interesting. I remember when Pinterest was started, I was overwhelmed trying to use it, but now I love it. I find myself using it for so many different things including travel as mentioned in this article. I have a Travel Bucket List board and a Disney World board. I do agree with the article when is says that Pinterest does what Google struggles with and vice versa.

This related article gives a great overview of how Pinterest was created and the ideas behind it. I thought it was interesting that a students also designed/created Pinterest. I never thought about how we have looked at things in a "grid" format before Pinterest and never really noticed it such as magazines, online shopping, etc... I do agree that the visual web can be as intriguing as your standard web browser. I know I like to browse Pinterest when a certain idea pops in my head or when I'm not interested in reading a lot...you know to rest my brain!

Google and Pinterest serve two different purposes, so I do not really see them as competitors in that area. However, I do think they both possess technology that the other one could benefit from, so it that way, they probably are competitors. I really think at some point we will see a coming together of the two. I may be way off base saying that, but it will be interesting to see..
