Article Response #5 (Due Fri 5/23)
A little over my head, but still interesting. I remember when Pinterest was started, I was overwhelmed trying to use it, but now I love it. I find myself using it for so many different things including travel as mentioned in this article. I have a Travel Bucket List board and a Disney World board. I do agree with the article when is says that Pinterest does what Google struggles with and vice versa.

This related article gives a great overview of how Pinterest was created and the ideas behind it. I thought it was interesting that a students also designed/created Pinterest. I never thought about how we have looked at things in a "grid" format before Pinterest and never really noticed it such as magazines, online shopping, etc... I do agree that the visual web can be as intriguing as your standard web browser. I know I like to browse Pinterest when a certain idea pops in my head or when I'm not interested in reading a lot...you know to rest my brain!

Well, this one is difficult because it's difficult to "pick a side". I'm intrigued by technology, but being in banking compliance we focus a lot on privacy. Part of me when reading this article thought "Glass will save me from looking someone up on Facebook manually", but then I thought "well, would I want a total stranger to have access to my Facebook or other social media site info without my approval?" We've all seen the idea of face recognition played out in movies, but does that really have a place in everyday life. Does the John Doe need that ability? Probably not.

Back to the technology side of things, this related article shows a different way to use Glass that is not creepy. For years, we have had access to NASCAR drivers and their view from the car, we've had audio from the NBA court and NFL field, but we have not been able to see their view. Being a sports fan, I think this is pretty cool. I'd love to see it move into MLB especially to see what a catcher or batter sees with a 90 mph ball flying towards him!!

Wow! I had gestational diabetes with my son and absolutely hated pricking my finger four times a day (actually still hate it when I give blood). I could see these being utilized by diabetic patients that don't like pricking their finger. Being a contact wearer, I can't imagine how they would feel with a tiny chip and antenna in them. When I get tired or my allergies flare up, my eyes dry out and they bother me a lot.

Trying to find an article that related to the original, was interesting and recent was challenging. I did find an article that I thought met those requirements. Remembering back to my days doing labs in AP Biology, this type of technology in the classroom will really increase the learning taking place. I think this is really awesome!

Great article! I chose this one out of my own concern for my digital footprint. I'm a professional at a large bank and have my own business. I want to make sure the information that is out there for the world to see is the information I want to them to have. Also, having a 7yr old son who constantly begs for a Facebook account, how to keep his digital profile safe. Safe from predators, but also to keep his digital footprint safe knowing that in a few years should he continue to progress as an athlete or in his academics that colleges and employers are likely to conduct Google searches.
I currently use an app called Klout to monitor my web influence. I don't recall ever hearing about websites mentioned in the article like Spokeo. I will be checking those out and cleaning up my digital profile as much as possible. I did a quick Google of myself and found one website that had a fake profile of me so I will be researching and contacting their Privacy Office to find out how to have it deleted.

To continue digging into this topic more I did a quick Google search on digital footprint. I found a website that I will be able to use with my son to begin teaching him about the importance of internet safety and protecting his digital footprint. It's actually a government site and breaks down content for children of different ages. I think I will also share it on my Facebook account for other parents to use with their children.

How cool is this idea??!! I had not heard of google self driving cars before reading this article. Having growing up watching The Jetson's, I can only hope this is the beginning of having something similar!! Probably not in my lifetime, but still. Considering our current economic state, I can't imagine that the average American would be able to afford a self driving car or even better flying car!!
One thing that I did think would be useful and more readily available is the lane keep assist (LKA). I remember vividly dozing off from being so exhausted when being pregnant during my drive home from work in the afternoons. It was scary! Something like this would have given me more reassurance of keeping me safe. I can see this being very useful in helping with the texting & driving problem that we have today. I see so many people on the interstates that weave and never know how close they were to an accident until someone blows their horn at them to get their attention. If their car would alert them quicker, I think a lot of accidents would be prevented.
